Chris Goemans

Senior Instructor

Chris became involved in EMS at an early age by volunteering at his local ambulance/rescue squad in College Point, NY as a teenager.  After taking initial CPR and First Aid classes, he later enrolled in an EMT class and has been certified since, now over 28 years.

Chris continued to volunteer and work as an EMT in NYC throughout the 1990’s and well into the 2000’s.  During this time, he also taught a variety of courses for the American Red Cross, American Heart Association and worked alongside fellow EMS veterans to teach CFR and EMT courses at one of the longest operating and most respected training facilities within NY State, the Regional Training Center for Emergency Medical Technicians.  Here, he helped to train and re-certify thousands of Certified First Responders and fellow Emergency Medical Technicians for over 20 years.

In late 2015, Chris decided to take the necessary steps to secure his pistol permit, a friend suggested he check out OnSight Firearms Training and that’s where met Ben, Rachel, and the rest of the team.   In addition to participating in Pistol, Shotgun and Carbine courses, Chris frequently assists OFT as an RSO.

Today Chris co-owns a security company which provides solutions to a variety of clientele; everyone from Residential and Small Business owners to School Districts and fortune 500 companies.

Tom Rufino

Instructor

Thomas Rufino started shooting when he was 12 years old receiving a .22 rifle from his uncle for his birthday. He continued shooting in the Boy Scouts until he was 18 and joined The U.S. Army as a Combat Medic. During his Military service Tom honed his craft as a medic in a light Infantry company, Reconnaissance, Surveillance, and Target Acquisition (RSTA) Squadron, and Medical Company Area Support (MCAS). Tom also served as a medical instructor for allied forces. He has extensive training on varying Military weapon systems (M9, M17, M4, M249, M240, M110 SAS, M2010 ESR). Tom is currently serving as a MCAS squad leader and Battalion marksmanship instructor.  In addition to his Military service Tom has also worked as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for the New York City Fire Department and currently work as a New York City Fireman.

Chris is an excellent instructor. His skills, knowledge and experience really made for a joyful learning experience. The curriculum was put together very nicely, I didn’t feel like someone took a knowledge dump in my head, nor was it death by PowerPoint. His humor and stories kept the class engaged, and keep the time moving on by. I don’t think that I would change anything about that particular class, it was a great intro to trauma care. I would like to see an addition to it, like whatever the next step would be, without going full emt training. And yes, as always this class was absolutely worth my time and money!

Chris and Sean did a great job of effectively presenting important, potentially life-saving information throughout the course of the day. This was accomplished by a balanced combination of academic lecture and practical exercises, which works well for an audience of primarily adult learners. I liked how the class blended topics ranging from tactical medical treatment and after-action use of force reviews with symptom and treatment summaries for incidents anyone may encounter, such as head injuries and cardiac distress. The instructors made the class informative, engaging, and enjoyable; the course offers something for everyone, be they civilians or members of service. In terms of changes, nothing in particular stands out but more hands-on practice is always a good thing for muscle memory purposes. I felt the course was a great value for the cost, and it is my hope that OFT/OMT offers additional classes such as this one (or on related topics) in the future.

Yesterday’s TAC-MED class taught by Chris Goemans was fantastic. Chris is an outstanding instructor, he kept everyone’s attention and stayed on point for what the class advertised as. Great slide shows, great real life stories, great history from well known events bringing us up to 2022 standards and great hands on demonstrations. This has been my 4th class through OFT / OFM and I plan on more in the future. Keep on with your great classes!!

Thank you for inviting us over for the class. It was very educational and I learned a lot - particularly wound packing as I've never learned that skill. Hopefully once I get my firearms licenses I can attend one of your shooting classes.
